Spread your wings and fly!

Year 5 Hawks & Lapwings

Welcome to Hawks and Lapwings!

Hawks:

Our topic this term is Tales of the Riverbank, with rivers being our main focus, especially the River Great Ouse.  We will find out about the Water Cycle, world river and our local rivers.  Also, we will investigate how the fens came to be created and how they may change in the future.

In English we will be reading and writing in the style or 'older narrative' as we enjoy reading 'The Wind in the Willows'.  We will read and perform playscripts and investigate film narrative.  Persuasive writing will have a cross-curricular link to our topic work.

In Science we will investigate Life Cycles and Healthy Living.

PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure PE kits (including suitable footwear) are in school at all times. Long hair should be tied up and earrings removed.

Doors open at 8.45am. Children should be in school by 8.50am as lessons start at 9.00am. Please do leave your child to make their own way into the cloakroom.

Homework is set on a Friday and should be returned on the following Wednesday. Homework is a great way of involving yourself in your child's learning.

Lapwings:

Welcome to Lapwing Class.

This term our topic is ‘Tales of the Riverbank’; rivers are our main focus, especially the River Great Ouse.  We will find out about ‘The Water Cycle’, world rivers and our local river and how the fens came to be created. Later in the term we will investigate how the Fens may change in the future.

In English, we will be reading and writing in the style of ‘Older Narrative’ as we enjoy ‘The Wind in the Willows’. We will read and perform Playscripts and investigate Film Narrative. Persuasive writing will have a cross-curricular link to our topic work.  In Science we will investigate Life Cycles and Healthy Living. We hope to enjoy lots of outdoor PE this term: orienteering, batting and fielding and athletics. Please remind your child to have their outdoor PE kit in school on Wednesdays and Fridays.

We look forward to an exciting and busy Summer Term.  Thank you for your continued support.
