Welcome back to a busy spring term in Kingfisher Class! We hope you all had a relaxing and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

This term, our PE days will be on Thursday (outdoor) and Friday (swimming). Please ensure children have the correct PE kit in school for those days.

Thank you for supporting your child with their reading during the autumn term. Research shows that reading at home (either reading independently or being read to by an adult or older sibling) positively impacts upon children’s progress in so many ways, as does supporting children with their number facts and their times tables in mathematics. This term in Year 6 we will be expecting the children to complete exercises from the CPG booklets which have been sent home. The children will complete one section from each of the 3 books, per week. This will be marked in school, together, on a Friday morning. Children will be offered the opportunity to complete these exercises in a homework club running on Tuesday lunchtimes.

We are also always happy to see any work that children would like to complete at home in other areas of the curriculum. Here are a few things we’ll be covering during the spring term:

  • Finding out about the life of Alexander and what made him ‘Great’ in history.
  • Comparing the human and physical features seen in different climates of the world.
  • Investigating light and how this helps us to see things and create shadows in science
  • Using our creative skills to craft sculptures inspired by our Greek research.
  • Exploring the poetic narrative The Princess’s Blankets by Carol Ann Duffy, adding our own blanket to the pile.

If you want to discuss any of these things further then we’d be happy to talk to you about it – just catch us before school at 8.40 am or quickly speak to us at the end of the day.

Thank you for your continued support as always,

Miss Hatchell, Mrs. Mason, Mrs Thurlow and Miss Campbell

P.E days:

Thursday - outdoor

Friday - swimming

Please ensure your child has the correct kit on the appropriate day. Earrings must not be worn for PE sessions and long hair should be tied back.

To promote healthy eating and to ensure your child stays alert, we recommend that they eat a piece of fresh fruit at break time and a suitable water bottle (clear) is available to use throughout the school day.  Please note that children should only be drinking water.
