Sport and PE

At Littleport Community Primary School there are plenty of opportunities for pupils to try their hand at a range of sporting activities such as Tag Rugby, Rounders, Netball, Football, Athletics, Hockey, Dance and Gymnastics, to name but a few. Swimming lessons for Years 3 to 6 take place at the local Hive Leisure Centre pool in Ely.

Littleport Community Primary School works with School Games which run a number of inter-school sports competitions during the course of the academic year. Our teams always enjoy the experience of competitive matches against pupils from other local schools, as well as the fresh air and exercise.

Our after school sports clubs provide further opportunities for children to develop skills.

Sports Festivals

Throughout the year children across the school have the opportunity to compete in a variety of festivals. As well as KS1 and KS2 Sports Day, all children compete in our School Games Day which takes place in the Summer Term.

Festivals that children are participating in this academic year:

  • KS2 girls football festival
  • Active crew leadership event
  • Year 3 netball festival
  • Year 2 tennis festival
  • Dance competition (virtual)
  • Y6 rounders
  • KS2 panathlon

Sports Premium Funding.

Following Team GBs success at the London 2012 Olympics, the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and sport.  This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision.  The funding is for the period 1 September 2013 – 31 August 2014 & September 2014 – August 2015.  This funding is ring fenced to be used for sport specific areas to make an impact in Physical Education and Sport in schools.

Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

At Littleport Community Primary School we are using the funding for:

  • Accessing the help of a Schools Games Co-ordinator to organise festivals between other schools in the area and within school.
  • Entry to competitions run by School Games.
  • Diwali dance workshops in Year 3.
  • P.E. equipment to improve the resourcing of Physical Education lessons within school and for after school clubs.
  • A Physical Education scheme of work, including planning and required resources, to support teachers planning and the teaching of PE across the school.
  • Professional Development for staff to improve staff skills in the teaching of Physical Education. This will impact on children’s skills and progress in Physical Education improving, as well as the quality of teaching.
  • In school staff training offered in gymnastics and dance.
  • Swimming Top-Up lessons for Year 6 children who can’t swim 25 meters.
  • Football coaching for all year groups (EYFS - Year 6)
