Through the study of History, children explore how people lived in the past, how societies have changed, and how the past shapes our present. In Geography, they learn about the physical and human features of the world, developing a sense of place and responsibility for the environment. Religious Education helps children understand and reflect on a wide range of beliefs and worldviews, promoting respect, empathy and thoughtful questioning.
In Key Stage 2, we follow the Opening Worlds curriculum, which provides a rich, coherent and carefully sequenced journey through History, Geography and RE. This curriculum introduces children to key concepts, vocabulary and knowledge in each subject, allowing them to make connections across topics and disciplines and to develop as thoughtful, articulate learners.
Our Humanities curriculum ensures all children leave primary school with a strong foundation in the stories, systems and beliefs that shape our world — ready to take their place as informed, curious and compassionate citizens.

At Littleport Community Primary School, we recognise and respect the right of parents and carers to withdraw their child from Religious Education (RE) and/or Collective Worship, either wholly or in part.
We encourage parents who are considering this to first explore our RE curriculum, which is designed to be inclusive, respectful and relevant to all pupils, regardless of background or belief. RE at our school is not about promoting a particular faith, but about helping children understand a range of religious and non-religious worldviews, ask meaningful questions, and develop empathy and understanding. If you are considering withdrawal, we are happy to meet with you to explain the curriculum and answer any questions. This helps ensure that any decision is informed. Please speak to the class teacher in the first instance and/or Mr Clark (Deputy Head and Curriculum Lead)
Parents do not need to provide a reason for withdrawal, and the school will respect this right. Each year, we may invite parents who have withdrawn their child from RE or Collective Worship to review their decision.
Please note that while withdrawal is permitted from RE and Collective Worship, it does not extend to other curriculum areas where religious issues may be raised, such as in History, English, or PSHE lessons, or through spontaneous discussion initiated by pupils.
Where a child is withdrawn, the school will provide appropriate supervision. However, we are not required to provide alternative teaching or resources. Children withdrawn from R.E or Collective Worship will usually remain on the school premises.
If after having discussed your options and the curriculum, you still feel you would like to remove your child from Religious Education lessons and/or Collective Worship this will need to be in writing to the Headteacher.
