Our School Orchestra
Our latest addition to our music offer at LCPS is our School Orchestra - open to any child in KS2 who plays an instrument and also open to staff as well! We started this in autumn 2023 and have been so thrilled with the children who've dedicated themselves to making the orchestra a success! In two years we've been so thrilled by the standard and progress the children have made! Orchestra rehearsals are on a Monday after school from 3.15 pm until 4.00 pm. We play two concerts a year: one at Christmas and one in the summer. This year we were also thrilled to play at the Ely Schools' Music Festival.
Orchestra is led by Prue Ward from Cambridgeshire Music ad supported by Miss Pyrah and Mr Clark.
If your child in KS2 is interested in joining then please do contact Mr Clark via the school office.
Music Lessons
We offer a wide range of music lessons in school led by external tutors. Children have weekly lessons over the course of a term during the school day. As the children progress in their instruments, there are opportunities for performance and for more formal examination.
Violin
Violin lessons are led by Ms Prue Ward from Cambridgeshire Music. Children can start learning the violin from year 3 onwards. Violin sessions are groups sessions, usually based within a child's year group. The school does lend instruments but it is the responsibility of the child to ensure the instrument is treated with respect and returned to us in good condition.
Brass
Brass lessons are led by Jan Wyndham-Hall from Cambridgeshire Music. Children can start learning a brass instrument from year 3 onwards. Brass sessions are groups sessions, usually based within a child's year group. The school does lend instruments but it is the responsibility of the child to ensure the instrument is treated with respect and returned to us in good condition.
Piano
Piano lessons are led by Jenny Schofield. Usually, children can start learning the piano from year 4 onwards however if we have space we can allow year 3s to take part. Piano sessions are individual sessions. It is important that a child has access to either a piano or keyboard at home. Piano lessons are extremely popular so the school operates a waiting list system. Children are invited to be added to the waiting list at the end of year 2 and then notified when spaces become available.
If you are interested in music lessons, please contact the school office or speak to Mr Clark in the mornings.
